Operations Director
— Capt. Max Hardberger: Captain Max Hardberger
serves as the Operations Director of VessEx. His primary
responsibilities include supervision of all extraction and
protection operations performed by the company. He
brings to this position a wealth of experience, including that
of a ship captain, maritime lawyer, classification society
surveyor, port captain, vessel technical manager and aviator.
Captain Hardberger is also a noted author, having published,
among other works, a highly regarded text book on ship
ownership and a memoir about his ship recovery experiences. His unique background provides VessEx with
vital depth of expertise when handling difficult situations on

Managing Director
— Michael Bono: As Managing Director
of VessEx, Michael Bono is primarily responsible for
logistical and administrative support for extraction and
protection operations, client reporting and communications, and
protection of client interests through contractual and
insurance arrangements. Mr. Bono is a maritime lawyer
with experience in virtually every area of this specialized
field. Of particular interest to VessEx clients is his
experience in handling ship mortgage foreclosures, insurance
coverage matters, maritime contracts and marine casualty
investigations. He holds the degree of Masters of Law in
Admiralty and is a published writer and speaker on maritime
